About the club.

The Scottish Mineral & Lapidary Club is the longest running Lapidary Club in Britain.

It was formally established in 1958 in Edinburgh. As the membership increased over the years the Club has moved round several premises in Edinburgh and is now in residence in new premises at 20 Maritime Lane, Leith, Edinburgh.

The Club has revived and fostered one of the traditional crafts of Scotland, a workshop and meeting place such as was once an integral part of life in the Edinburgh closes.

As the name suggests the Club is not solely a mineral or lapidary club but an amalgamation of a majority of 'sciences' associated with rocks.

The Club's main object is to encourage, foster an interest in natural minerals and educate in the craftsmanship in relation to them on a non-commercial basis.

While some members specialise in one field, others are encouraged to dabble in many.

All our members are keen enthusiasts in their chosen part of this hobby and are only too willing to assist others whether newcomers or 'old hands'.

All the members, young and old, produce wonderful articles for the love of the hobby.

Membership is open to all, subject to Committee approval.

The joining fee is presently set at £25 for adults and £12 for juniors. The types of membership available for the Club are:

Full (adult) ................................. £192 Full (junior, under 16)................. £72 Associate .....................................£15

Special/temporary memberships are offered by committee discretion.

(Compare these prices to night class fees and we are open virtually all year)

All persons joining, as full or junior members, must complete an induction period which is under the supervision and instruction of one of our very experienced members.

Visitors to the Club will always be welcome.

For larger groups, it is requested that arrangements are made in advance by emailing or writing to the address above.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PREMISES ARE SUITABLE FOR WHEELCHAIR ACCESS.
