Lapidary Gallery

The word Lapidary relates to the engraving, cutting, or polishing of stones and gems and can also mean a person who does this work.

The Scottish Mineral & Lapidary Club is primarily a workshop, equipped to allow its members to use a wide variety of materials and techniques. One of the main features of club is the beautiful lapidary work carried out by its members.

The materials or stones we use include Sardonyx, Agate, Carnelian, Malachite, Chalcedony, Bloodstone, Granite and Jaspers principally in Red, Mustard and Brown. Quartz is also used in the form of Amethysts, Citrine and Cairngorm (Smoky Quartz), much of which can still be readily collected from various sites around the country, although nowadays we use a much wider variety of suitable stone.
